The Story of Seven Little Beginnings

A Winter Tale from Golders Hill Day Nursery

Once upon a time, long before numbers were counted or letters were named, a child arrived in the world with nothing but curiosity, movement, and wonder.

At first, the world was felt rather than understood.
A familiar voice.
A gentle touch.
A warm smile.
This is where learning begins, in connection, in trust, in feeling safe enough to be.

As the child grew, seven quiet journeys began to unfold.

The first journey was one of the heart.
Learning how to feel secure, how to belong, how to take comfort in others and offer kindness in return. A journey of confidence, resilience, and joyful independence, built slowly, one relationship at a time.

The second journey arrived through sound.
Babbling became words. Words became stories. Gestures turned into conversations. The child discovered that their voice mattered, that they could express needs, share thoughts, and be understood.

The third journey was movement.
Rolling, crawling, standing, climbing. Little hands learned to grasp, pour, paint, and build. Strong bodies grew through freedom to move, explore, and master new challenges, gaining confidence with every step.

The fourth journey unfolded through stories and symbols.
Books were held, pictures were studied, marks were made. Songs were remembered. Stories were retold. Meaning slowly emerged, not through pressure, but through delight and familiarity.

The fifth journey was one of patterns and possibilities.
Counting steps. Matching socks. Filling and emptying containers. Sorting, comparing, noticing. The child discovered that the world has rhythm, order, and logic, and that they could make sense of it.

The sixth journey stretched outward.
Into nature, culture, seasons, and community. The child noticed rain on windows, leaves underfoot, and celebrations beyond themselves. They learned that the world is vast, shared, and full of wonder.

And finally, the seventh journey was imagination.
Paint became emotion. Music became movement. Blocks became castles. The child discovered they could create, transform, and express what words could not yet hold.

Together, these seven journeys formed the story of early childhood, from birth to four — a time when learning is not rushed, but rooted in curiosity, play, and relationships.

At Golders Hill Day Nursery, we are honoured to walk alongside children as these journeys unfold. We offer a nurturing environment where each child is respected as capable, curious, and unique, supported gently as they grow into themselves.

As this year comes to a close, we celebrate every small beginning, every brave attempt, every joyful discovery.

And as a new year approaches, we look forward to continuing this beautiful story together, with care, patience, and wonder at its heart.

Because childhood is not preparation for life.

It is life!

From all of us at Golders Hill Day Nursery, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a New Year overflowing with wonder, joy and kindness.

With warmth and gratitude,

Bedra & Golders Hill Day Nursery
